Change

Change

Change is important. Probably the most useful aspect we can learn in life.

Change helps us grow, react to situations, guides us, enables us to understand how to move on from one thing to the next.

Change in fitness is important. We set goals, reach them, and then must change again and realign ourselves with another goal.

Change in fitness is also incredibly hard. Because it means a change in mindset. The majority of us will join a gym to lose weight, especially if you’re a woman. Then, if we reach that milestone, we want to stay there. I have found it incredibly hard to let go of the idea of being lean, but I know in order to grow, I must change.

I have maintained for ages, did a little cut in the summer, and now I’m in a place where my mind knows I need to change, but needs that extra push in order to do so.

Bodybuilding is as much about aesthetics as it is about performance. We all love being strong, but equally, we gain gratification from people admiring us. The picture on Instagram with all those likes and comments, the people coming up to you in the gym, showing off.

I recently listened to Ben Coomber’s podcast with Grenade Jay. Jay talked about writing down long term and short term goals, and the two words ‘then what?’

Because we will reach our goals, and then there will be new goals. Then what?

It made me realise that simply just being lean is a goal I have not only reached but surpassed. I have achieved it. Then what?

Do I want to stay like this forever? Do I want to train just to train? It was the straw that broke the camel’s back in my mindset, and made me realise that there is more to life. There is more in me. There is room to grow and get better. There is change.

So I am going to let go of that mindset. I recently spoke with a personal trainer who I am potentially going to work with to help me push through this and build some muscle. I know this is something I need to do and now, I can’t wait to get started. I know that this will enable me to look better in the long run, to be stronger, and that when I cut in the future, I will look 10x better than I do now.

Change opens many doors, and I’m going to unlock one I never thought would be possible.
